Made it!

It took me 45 miles but I finally found a (very muddy) place to dip my
tire into the Hudson.

Got off to a late start in last minute preparations. As a result, I
only did 50 miles today instead of my planned 60 (plus I was getting
really tired).

I paid for it too. The motel is 30 bux more than I was planning on.
I'm at a place near by West Point.

Everything went pretty smoothly except some really really big hills I
ended up walking (wussed out) and maps put me on a dirt path at one
point that I had to backtrack and bypass.

I really need a shower and some food.

  2. What's with dipping the tires in the Hudson?

  3. It was an idea from Geddes as a kind of Christening of the journey.

The journey will end upon dipping of the tire in the Pacific.

It was *not* a very safe spot and I was a little worried about losing control of my 70 pound monster. I also had to wash my shoes for like 15 minutes at the motel to get the encrusted dirt out.

    Great idea Geddes.

  5. I would have suggested naming your bike and breaking a champagne bottle over it.

I'm convinced that the only reason you are not naming it is so that when you finish you'll be able to say: "I've been through the desert on a bike with no name"
